Cleveland Highlights

Cleveland Indians

NBA Draft

On June 23, 2011 the Cleveland Cavs will officially begin the rebuilding process. Currently the Cavs hold the number 1 and 4 picks in the 2011 draft. Here are some draft scenarios I see possibly playing out

Scenario #1-
1.)-Cavs -Kyrie Irving PG (Duke)
2.)-Twolves- Derrick Williams SF/PF (Arizona)
3.)-Jazz- Brandon Knight PG (Kentucky)
4.)-Cavs- Ines Kanter C (Kentucky)
This personally is one of my least favorite scenarios out of the three but the most likely. There is a lot of speculation that the Cavs are looking hard at Jonas Valanciunas (Lithuania), however I don't see them drafting Jonas (Jonas is having buyout issues with his current team (the cavs don't have time to gamble on a Rubio like situation).

Scenario #2
1.)-Cavs- Derrick Williams SF/PF (Arizona)
2.)-Twolves- Ines Kanter C (Kentucky) This is a scenario where they would definitely think hard about trading their #2 pick
3.)-Jazz- Kyrie Irving PG (Duke)
4.)-Cavs- Brandon Knight PG (Kentucky)
This is my favorite scenario for the cavs. The main reason being that I personally believe Derrick Williams and Kyrie Irving are washes. Williams reminds me of a young Paul Pierce, he definetly has the potential to be a star in the league, but there is speculation that he can't play the three. I watched Derrick Williams many times over the 2011 season and he can 100% play the three especially due to his athletic ability and worth ethic. Knight and Irving are both 6'3 PG's, Irving is the more polished of the two however,Knight would have a year to learn around Baron Davis which (both have similar games).

Knight's 2010-2011 stats (38 GP)- 35.9 MPG 17.3 PPG 4.0 RPG 4.2 APG
Irving 2010-2011-stats (11 GP)-    27.5 MPG  17.3 PPG 3.4 RPG 4.3 APG

Side Note- Derrick Rose's Freshman year stats at Memphis stats same coach as Brandon Knight (Calipari).

Rose's 2007-2008 stats (40 GP)-29.5 MPG   14.9 PPG  4.5 RPG  4.7 APG

Scenario #3
1.)-Cavs- Irving
2.) Possible Trade
3.)-Jazz- Brandon Knight
4.)-Cavs-Cavs trade for more picks later in draft

MLB: Tribe Update

Tribe were winners over the Detroit Tigers 6-4. O.Cabrera goes 3-4 with 2 RBI's. Chris Perez gets his 17th save of the season. The Tribe look to win the series tonight with Talbot(2-3) on the mound vs Scherzer (8-2). Detroit and Cleveland remain tied for first in the AL Central.

Knapp going under the Knife

As someone who has undergone shoulder surgery I can personally attest to the fact that is can put an end to a career as an athlete. In Jason Knapp's case, this second surgery on his shoulder could call into question the possibilty of an early retirement. Yeah, Knapp is young, but I was not even legally able to have my first drink before my second surgery and had to pull out early of my once imfamous wreslting career; however, Knapp could come back in the spring with full promise. He did after all have surgery soon after his trade to the Indians. So is this surgery the end to Knapp? Time will only tell.

King Lebron

You know the name; you've seen the face and, unfortunately, there was a period that we too praised the notorious NBA player. I can openly admit I renounced the existence of my #34 Cavs jersey ever since the betrayal. Now, as I soak up in the glory in the defeat of the infamous player I can't help but look back to the days when I too thought of him as the "king." The fact that Lebron left Cleveland did not cause me to excommunicate Lebron, but the way in which he did it. Cleveland is a community made up by hardworking people; some become prosperous while others, like many in other parts of the country, live pay-check to pay-check for the most part of their lives. The problem is not the work ethic of Cleveland, it's the attitude. People beat down on Cleveland, and then convince themselves that they are too good for Cleveland, then renounce their native home for a new city like New York or Chicago. The truth? Cleveland is a place where people can build themselves up from the ground, and welcome back those who ran away to the "big cities" only to find their true home was Cleveland. Will Lebron's defeat lead him to this same conclusion? Probably not; but his failure proves the saying that what goes around comes, and that leaving Cleveland will not make you a better person, businessman or athlete- it just makes you a quitter.
